Our featured speaker was California State Assemblyman, Phil Ting. Asm. Ting let us know about the work he has been involved with in Sacramento.

The San Francisco Fire Department gave a presentation at the October SHARP meeting. Inspector Tomie Ann Kato and Inspector Darrell Stone gave the members present a 90 minute presentation on home fire safety.

On Sept 24, members of the community met at the SHARP Community Meeting Room to hear about the upcoming local and state propositions on the Nov. 6 ballot.

Our August meeting speaker was Mr. Patrick Wolff.  With a broad background in finance, Mr. Wolff gave a full house of SHARP members and guests a solid overview of the San Francisco city budget. is

The July 30 2018 SHARP meeting featured three speakers from organizations that received grants from SHARP earlier this year.

San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón and Stop Crime SF board member Nancy Tung held a lively panel discussion on crime and prosecution in a packed SHARP community room. DA Gascón cited his office’s accomplishments, stoutly defended state ballot Proposition 47 (which he helped pass), and outlined future criminal justice challenges.

S.H.A.R.P.  partnered with several West-Side neighborhood groups to sponsor a mayoral candidate forum  for the upcoming June election.

James Dixon, Architect – Victorian & Edwardian architecture in San Francisco

S.H.A.R.P. February meeting attendees were treated to a comprehensive 90 minute talk by well known architect James Dixon. Mr. Dixon covered the subtleties of San Francisco architecture from1825 thru 1920, covering the Victorian and Edwardian periods. One may think that’s just two styles, but Mr. Dixon laid out over a dozen changes in design and construction over that period of time.

Human trafficking is modern day slavery. It includes forced prostitution and other forms of forced labor. Although hard numbers are hard to come by, human trafficking appears to be widespread in San Francisco. We were briefed by three prominent persons in the fight against human trafficking in the city: Minouche Kandel, Director of Women’s Policy at the San Francisco Department on the Status of Women; Antonia Lavine, Coordinator of the San Francisco Collaborative Against Human Trafficking; and Jessica Li, Executive Director of San Francisco SafeHouse, a safe temporary home where women can recover from forced prostitution and other kinds of sexual exploitation.
