Stonestown update & New School Board Member report

Stonestown Shopping Center opened in 1952 as a one-story strip with the Emporium at one end as the anchor store. Old time San Franciscans will tell you that it was quite popular as people loved to be able to shop at some new stores without going way downtown. Ms. Reuel Cooke from Brookfield Properties Development gave us n update on the long-term plan fro Stonestown and where things are now.

Lainie Motamedi is one of the new appointees to the Board of Education. She says she is committed to getting San Francisco’s schools back on track, prioritizing strong fiscal discipline and focus on student outcomes.

Stop Crime SF Forum on Our Drug Crisis

On March 24th S.H.A.R.P. sponsored a Zoom public forum on San Francisco’s drug . In the last two years, more than 1,360 San Franciscans have been murdered via drug overdoses, primarily with fentanyl. This is twice the number of people who have died from COVID. Why is this happening in our city? What can we do to prevent this ongoing tragedy
Our expert panel includes Ginny Burton, a recovering addict; Tom Ostly, former San Francisco District Attorney’s Office Crime Strategies Unit.

S.N.A.P. — The Sunset Nature Advocacy Partnership

On February 11th 2022 we had a Zoom presentation from The Sunset Nature Advocacy Partnership (SNAP). SNAP is an exciting new collaboration between Garden for the Environment, Sutro Stewards, and Nature in the City. With the generous support from SHARP, this partnership engages Bay Area residents and highlights nature-based solutions to climate change through stimulating educational panels, fun, and informative guided walks and hikes, and hands-on experiences—all outdoors.

Getting Around Town

Our January 11th, 2022 meeting will presented two subjects dealing with transportation. We have combined the Neighborways and Waymo subjects into one transportation-based meeting. We have invited Brian Liang from SFMTA to come to our meeting and explain the new “Neighborway” concept .
Waymo’s Government and Community Relations Manager, Noelle Duong presented to S.H.A.R.P. members to answered questions and shared information about Waymo’s mission, experience, and the San Francisco Trusted Tester program.
