Stonestown update  & New School Board Member report

Tuesday, July 26, 2022

Stonestown Shopping Center opened in 1952 as a one-story strip with the Emporium at one end as the anchor store.  Old time San Franciscans will tell you that it was quite popular as  people loved to be able to shop at some new stores without going way downtown.

The property was updated to a larger mall design in 1977 and then updated and enlarged again to become the Stonestown Galleria in 1987.  More recently with shopping habits changing and the need for housing in San Francisco on the increase, Stonestown is and will be going through a lot of changes to address current needs.

Ms. Reuel Cooke from Brookfield Properties Development gave us n update on the long-term plan and where things are now.

Lainie Motamedi is one of the new appointees to the Board of Education.  She says she is committed to getting San Francisco’s schools back on track, prioritizing strong fiscal discipline and focus on student outcomes.

Since taking office five months ago, the school board has hired a new superintendent, approved a balanced budget, committed to in-person instruction for our students, restored criteria-based admissions at Lowell High School, initiated a process to improve all of our high schools, and is working with city government to share resources and shore up financial support.
