Assem. Catherine Stefani

Thursday, August 7, 2025

State Assembly Member Catherine Stefani represents the Marina, Inner Sunset and Westside neighborhoods, along with parts of Northern San Mateo County.

Stefani met with SHARP members on August 7 and shared information on her legislative goals including public safety.  She has authored 15 bills, with each legislator authorized to introduce 35 bills during their two-year term.  Her first bill, AB 1297, was approved and signed into law by the governor last month. This law provides for automatic temporary restraining orders to protect victims of domestic violence.

She also has sponsored other legislation to protect domestic violence victims, including restrictions on possessing firearms by abusers. Another bill would ensure victims of crime, including domestic violence survivors, receive restitution before any other fines or debts are paid by offenders. Working with San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, she fought successfully to preserve restitution for victims in the state budget this year.

Stefani also serves on the Judiciary Committee, and has a strong interest in reform and transparency in the judicial branch.  Her other committees cover elections, health care and she chairs and ethics committee.  Another priority is to protect Californians from increases to the cost of living.  She also heard questions from constituents at the meeting regarding Proposition 19 regarding inherited homes, gas stoves during home remodeling, SB 712 on regulation of vintage cars, and redistricting in the wake of proposed Texas gerrymandering.
