The future of U.C.S.F.

Wednesday, February 10, 2021

The SHARP February 16 Zoom meeting covered the UCSF Parnassas Heights Plan. Nearly 30 people signed on to hear the details.
In late January 2021, the UC Regents approved UCSF’s Comprehensive Parnassus Heights Plan, allowing them to move forward with their 30-year plan to modernize their oldest campus at Parnassus Heights. This is an important first step that paves the way for the new hospital planning as well as community investments to move forward, including over 1,000 new affordable housing units, millions invested in transit improvements near Parnassus, and thousands of new jobs over the life of the plan.

Future public meetings will focus on various aspects of the UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center (new hospital) design and how it fits within the community, such as designing public spaces, connections to open space, site access, and pedestrian and vehicular circulation. Sign up for the Parnassus Heights community listserv here to receive future meeting notices directly.
UCSF Moffitt Hospital was constructed in 1955 and needs to be decommissioned for inpatient care or seismically retrofitted by 2030 to meet California’s seismic standards. Nearly 3,000 patients are turned away annually from the hospital because of bed shortages — a challenge that will likely increase with the Bay Area’s projected growing and aging population.
