S.H.A.R.P. October Meeting – Meet Our Grantees

S.H.A.R.P. has given over $150,000 in grants over the past four years.  Our October 28 meeting featured speakers from three of the ten organizations that received a grant from S.H.A.R.P. this year.  Find out about the interesting and varied projects they pursue.

Members first heard from Ronesha Jackson of City Youth Now, They provide a variety of programs for at-risk youth, helping them to be prepared for school and jobs.

 

 

Next Trina Lopez from  Garden for the Environment . Told about the programs they offer in all aspects of gardening for adults and children, and even bee keeping.

 

Jeannie Little, LCSW, Executive Director of the Center of Harm Reduction Therapy, told about their unusual approach to helping addicted individuals to work toward a better life through coming to those populations with food, mental and  medical assistance.

 

 

Last a representative from U.C.S.F.  talked about their expansion plans and invite local residents to the public meetings that will be taking place regarding those plans.

Four specific near-term projects were identified to be implemented in the next ten years. These include:

  1. Research and Academic Building: UCSF is currently conducting a validation study to inform the redevelopment of the UC Hall site to for research and academic uses
  2. Construction of the UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center: UCSF is in the early phases of planning their new hospital on the Langley Porter site that they anticipate will open in 2029
  3. Increased Aldea Housing: Redevelop older apartment buildings in the Aldea family housing complex with taller buildings to accommodate more students
  4. New Irving Street arrival: Renovate the Irving Street arrival to improve campus image, way-finding and overall experience for everyone
